Ir spectrum of liquid water
The water molecule has three fundamental molecular vibrations. The O-H stretching vibrations give rise to absorption bands with band origins at 3657 cm (ν1, 2.734 μm) and 3756 cm (ν3, 2.662 μm) in the gas phase. The asymmetric stretching vibration, of B2 symmetry in the point group C2v is a normal vibration. The H-O-H bending mode origin is at 1595 cm (ν2, 6.269 μm). Both symmetric stretching and bending vibrations have A1 symmetry, but the frequency difference be… WebOct 24, 1997 · Figure 1 Infrared absorption spectrum of the OH-stretching mode of HDO in D 2 O (1 mol/liter solution in a 200-μm sample), corrected for the D 2 O background absorption (black curve); and normalized power spectra of the laser pulses, centered at 3320 (red curve), 3400 (green curve), and 3500 cm −1 (blue curve), respectively. WebOct 17, 1997 · It is therefore not surprising that the IR spectrum of light and heavy water has been intensely studied [1-7] over the years. In the high frequency region the stretching and bending modes of the H20 molecules give rise to two bands centred at = 3400 and = 1650 cm-l, respectively. WebJan 30, 2024 · Sample Constraint: Infrared spectroscopy is not applicable to the sample that contains water since this solvent strongly absorb IR light. Spectrum Complication: The IR spectrum is very complicated and the interpretation depends on lots of experience. Sometimes, we cannot definitely clarify the structure of the compound just based on one …
